The COVID-19 pandemic has forced us all to make changes to our lifestyles. Working from home, online learning, the wearing of masks, and social distancing have become part of our daily existence. With the pandemic still ongoing and uncertainty surrounding the economy, many have found themselves on the breadline or otherwise struggling to get by. With a definite endpoint not in sight, ‘the new normal’ has taken a psychological toll on us all.

I met with Christopher Crossley, Founder of Modern Connoisseur ltd, to discuss some of the challenges men experienced and offered his advice for coping during these times. Christopher is a luxury consultant for high-net-worth individuals and is considered a gentleman coach as he helps men improve their personal branding and business etiquette.

As we come to the end of 2020, he gives us five ways to shift your mindset to better handle change through this pandemic.

Develop Daily Habits

Creating a daily routine can impact your overall goal. It will help you to focus on tasks, to think clearer, helping you to become better. Focus on your smaller, daily tasks, and the bigger picture will take care of itself. When you recognize the changes beginning to happen, it will motivate you to keep going.

A Man Who Knows his ‘Why’ bears the ‘How’

It’s easy to lose focus during a pandemic. You need to become conscious of your WHY and regain focus on the goals that you set out to accomplish. If you have not set goals and objectives, take this opportunity to reflect and write down your plans for 2021.

Self Inspection

What is preventing you from getting to where you want to be? Identify the obstacles, then internalize them and transform your mindset. This exercise of self-inspection can shift things almost immediately.

Inspiration vs. Motivation

Inspiration pushes you to take action towards your goal, and motivation occurs when you notice that you are achieving your goal. If you are seeking inspiration, search for videos or articles that are relative to your interest.

Online Support Groups

Connect with loved ones or friends; there is nothing wrong with speaking about the challenges you have experienced. Join an online support group for men and engage in discussion to ease some of your problems. You can also take online vocational skills or register for a cooking class. These are some ways to avoid feeling isolated and alone.
